Merrow CC U10s success against Blackheath U10s

On a very pleasant Sunday morning, Merrow U10s took on their first game of the season. With plenty of practice under their belts, we were asked to bat first. Ajay & Barney got us off to a flying start, adding 34 for the first pair with Barney rattling 3 fours off the third over. Tom & Dylan, Toby & Sam and Oliver & Ben steadily saw the scoreboard tick over taking singles where they could, and wisely allowing wide balls to stand as extras. Toby tucked away a couple of fours in his last over. Ethan and Adam then took the attack to Blackheath seeing us over the innings line with a score of 327-2.

The highlight of the day though was our bowling and fielding performance. Backing up was on fine display, and an inspired fielding effort saw an incredible 9 run outs, including a very unlucky one where the Blackheath non-striking batsman deflected the ball onto his stumps from a throw from Ajay at square leg. All run outs were done with calmness and poise. With this effort we restricted Blackheath to 254 off their overs.

It was a great team effort, with enthusiasm and support all round. Many thanks to the parental support, and to Aidan for scoring. Plenty to work on in practice, but a great start to our games this season.
