Merrow CC U10s turn up the heat on Westcott

On what can only be described as Mediterranean conditions with temperatures approaching 30degC, Merrow U10s took on Westcott U10s on Sunday. With a delay in Westcott arriving, it was decided that Merrow would field first, and the game began. Barney & Ben H took the attack to Westcott early, limiting them to a net 12 gain off the first 4 overs. Barney chipped in with 2 consecutive wickets in his second over. A tight start from both. Adam and Ben E (on debut) stepped up and restricted runs to a net 35. The Bean Brothers kept it tight with no boundaries conceded and a run out to boot kept Westcott hunting for runs. With the pressure mounting, Oliver and Dylan bowled next. A great maiden over from Dylan's first over showed the way, and only one boundary scored. With Westcott one player short, their last pair saw a previous batter in, and their last pair added 18, with scoring opportunities at a premium against Ethan and Ajay. Ethan drew a hit wicket dismissal (v unfortunate for the batter), and Westcott ended on 290-4.

After a well deserved drinks break, Barney & Ajay got the Merrow CC run chase off to a flyer, adding 30 runs. Adam and Dylan took the score to 64. Westcott steadied the ship when Oliver and Ben E went in to bat, but then Toby & Sam to the score to 95 before Ethan and Ben H took the Merrow score to 329 off the 20 overs with Ben H top scoring with 17.

Again the batting was positive with more singles stolen, and in the field for the most part backing up good, despite the heat. However we did ship 70 runs as extras. A definite area to focus on.

With Mr. Tarling a little weary after a night's excess, thanks to Matt H for scoring, Natalie for drinks and biscuits, including the extra drinks breaks, and Mrs. Herbert & daughter for flag placement duties.
