Impressive Bowling Performance Leads to Merrow U9s Victory

Merrow U9s played their second game of the season, and their first at home, against Wood Street on a warm sunny morning perfect for cricket.

Merrow lost the toss and were asked to bat first. I doubt we’ll face a better bowler than the Wood Street opening bowler and Elliott did well to keep a lot of fast straight deliveries out, and at the other end Thomas hit his first four of the season. In the middle of the innings there weren’t many balls to hit, Joe helped to keep the scoreboard moving along but the majority of runs came as wides. The final batting pair of Nikhil and William both hit fours and added 30 runs in the last 4 overs. Merrow finished on 276 for 6 wickets.

When Wood Street batted, all the Merrow bowlers put in a really terrific performance. There were hardly any wides in the whole innings and Elliott, Rebecca and Nikhil all bowled maiden overs. Esme and Keira were rewarded for their excellent bowling by getting their first wickets of the season, both clean bowled, and two more wickets came through good fielding resulting in run outs. The impressive all round bowling and fielding performance kept the Wood Street score to 238 for 4 wickets.

Merrow won by 38 runs.

Thanks to John and Phill for doing the scoring, Arvind for providing the snacks and all the other supporters.
